Despite promises to train hard before the Fifth Mega Drive Tournament, José Chança did not return following his embarrassing exit at the Fourth. Jorge and Flávio Esteves did return to the line-up, with the name Jorge Esteves doubtless cast fear into the hearts of those who desired to win the Fifth Tournament. Yet it would not be Jorge Esteves who won the Fifth Tournament winners trophy, this time the competition belonged to the host, Alberto Campos, who, after reaching Stage Three for the third successive time, managed to go all the way and win the competition. Jorge Esteves was the losing finalist, Alberto beating the virtually invincible one on World Cup Italia '90. Fátima Campos returned the Semi-Finals following a two-tournament absence. She would once again fall at this hurdle, beaten by Alberto on Pete Sampras Tennis. Filipe Semião's defence of his title lasted as far as the Semi-Finals where he lost out to Jorge Esteves.

The Fifth Tournament structure was identical to the Fourth Tournament, with the competition divided into three stages. Stage One and Two being elimination leagues, while Stage Three was a striaght knockout. Members played the others over four games in Stage One with the top three advancing to Stage Two. The Second Stage consisted of four four-player games.
