Nottingham 2008, Lisbon 2009, 2010 saw the World's Premier 16-bit competition move to Nuremberg in Germany. Now endorsed by Sega of Germany, four nations gathered in the heart of Europe for the supreme honour, one would rise above the carnage of battle to be crowned 2010 European Mega Drive Champions. | |

STRUCTURE
The European Mega Drive Championships are a team based event with three members per nation making up a team. Points are awarded to the team and not the individual. With four nations competing, the 2010 European Mega Drive Championship ran as a league with two-points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat. The winning team was crowned the Mega Drive Champions of Europe.

GAMES
Forty-five fixtures were contested. 2010 saw an increase in quantity and variety of the Administration picks to this time include one-player games. Old favourites such as World Cup Italia '90 returned where Germany and Portugal scrapped out a 1-1 draw while oddities like Marble Madness were present. Controversy persisted with Germany exploiting the Balloon Park glitch and being forced to replay the game and the admin selection of first NHL '95 then '96 and finally '97 causing outrage from Team Hungary. In total thirty-five titles were played, the most common being Golden Axe 2, which made three appearances. Pedro Bragança's incredible run on Sonic the Hedgehog was doubtless the high-point of the tournament; collecting 223 of the 225 Green Hill Zone 1 rings in less than 90 seconds!

TEAMS
Teams from England, Germany and Portugal returned. With them in 2010, for the first time, were Team Hungary. Portugal once again showed themselves to be the dominant team and following fixture thirty-seven, Dário Pelixo's 2-0 victory over Tobias Berg on International Superstar Soccer Deluxe, secured the title for a third successive tournament for Team Portugal. Germany finished in second place comfortably ahead of newcomers, Team Hungary, while Team England once again finished is a dismal last place for the fourth-successive European Mega Drive Championship.

COFFEE
After the disappointing coffee situation in 2009, generous helpings of Dallmayr Prodomo - "A quality German roast" helped lubricate the fabrics of another Mega Drive Championship. In many ways Portugal won the Mega Drive Championship, in many other was coffee was the true winner.
