LEAGUE - DIVISION ONE

The Eighteenth Mega Drive Championship shall be held in Nottingham, England on the evening of Thursday 10th July 2008. The battles in League One will intensify this summer. With not only the title of Mega Drive Champion and the honour of holding onto the Champions Trophy until the next tournament available for the winner, should there be another European Tournament in September, the top three positioned members will automatically qualify for Team England. Each Division One member stands a good chance of making it to the national squad and a tight contest is expected. The lowest placed member will be relegated from the top level. The fixtures will be drawn over the coming months with no changes made to the game pool.

LEAGUE - DIVISION TWO

Division Two's numbers are also swelled as the increasing reputation of the competitions draws in new challengers. Currently the structure of the league will only allow ten members in Division Two. Because of the increased size, we shall be promoting two, or more, members into Division One in time for the next contest - the final number is dependant upon the total number of members in the league. Of course this enlarged Division Two does carry risks for the participants. Should we add a Division Three at the Nineteenth Championship then those who finished lowest in Division Two may find themselves relegated into the new league. With the varied ability level in Division Two, as well as a number of unknown elements among the new members, a number of shock results could well be on the cards as the expected expansion of Division One offers an excellent opportunity to join the tournament's elite.

THE KNOCKOUT

With fifteen being the total number of members we can accommodate at the Eighteenth Tournament there will be a maximum of four rounds in the competition. Byes are awarded to players based on their performance in the previous Tournament Knockout. The premier knockout contest gives members from Division Two the chance to upset the odds by defeating their higher league counterparts, although no Division Two member has won the Knockout since the Ninth Tournament. After its disastrous outing at the Seventeenth Tournament, Wayne Gretzky and the NHLPA All Stars has been removed from the game pool - the only change that has been made. There will also be a new shield for the winner's name to be inscribed upon - assuming we get a trophy virtually identical to the one used in previous tournaments.

THE CHALLENGE

The Super Street Fighter 2 and Eternal Champions focused Challenge Trophy finally became an uninspiring and predictable rump competition at the Seventeenth Mega Drive Championship. So, being the young, dynamic, pro-active, devilishly good looking administrators that we are, we have opted to make a few changes. Ladies and Gentlemen, we present to you the revamped Challenge: Once again four members from Division One and four members from Division Two qualify to participate, based on league position in the previous tournament. Super Street Fighter 2 and Eternal Champions have been dropped and instead members shall duel on the Swedish Ice Hockey Simulation Elitserien '96. The quirk to this competition will be that the Division One qualifiers will be paired off with the Division Two qualifiers to form four teams. These teams shall then play in a knockout with the winning pair given the honour of holding aloft the new Challenge Trophies, which even have golden leaves in their design to honour the history of this contest. A different challenge will await those who qualify at the Eighteenth Tournament.

THE DIVISION TWO CUP

No major changes are expected to this small knockout that is exclusively open to the Division Two members. Increased participation in the lower league will obviously mean a few more games, with byes awarded based upon league position in the previous tournament. The alterations to the Challenge mean that Eternal Champions shall be included in the draw while NHL '97 shall be omitted. The other eight Division Two titles shall be used in the draw.
