LEAGUE REVIEW:

Lord Dilks was declared Mega Drive Champion after beating Mr Smith on NHL '96. Lord Dilks started the Fourteenth Tournament in excellent form, winning all of his first seven games, giving him his best goal difference since the Fifth Tournament. Mr Smith's started off brightly but his form slumped in the middle of the tournament, during which time he won just one game in four, despite improving towards the end it was too late to catch Lord Dilks. Baron Von Hooton and Doc Shakib fought to avoid the stigma of being relegated to the Second Division. Head-to-head Doc Shakib won two of their three encounters, however, Baron Von Hooton secured his place in Division One after drawing with Mr Smith, 1-1, on NHL '96. Lieutenant Gareth won Division Two for his second time, becoming the only member to win Division Two successively - the original competition being disbanded following the Tenth Tournament. His promotion was as good as secured following a victory against rival, Captain Maltby, on Streets of Rage 2 at the mid-point of the competition. Captain Maltby also earned promotion, finishing a comfortable six points ahead of third placed Earl Holbrook. Dame Yada finished last, equal on points with Earl Holbrook but with an inferior goal difference.

KNOCKOUT REVIEW:

Dame Yada was unfortunate to be drawn in the same half as the only three people to win a Mega Drive Championship. Yet she produced the shock of the Knockout by defeating Lord Dilks in Round One on Sonic 3. She passed into the Semi-Finals where she was beaten by Mr Smith on Virtua Racing. Out of the four Division One members entered in the competition, Mr Smith was the only one to reach the Semi-Finals. He wound up the eventual winner after narrowly beating Lieutenant Gareth in a Super Street Fighter 2 epic. His path to the final saw him convincingly defeat both Dame Yada and Doc Shakib. In his first knockout, Captain Maltby managed to reach the Semi-Final where he was beaten by Lieutenant Gareth on WWF Super Wrestlemania. Lieutenant Gareth pulled off a shock against Baron Von Hooton in Round One where he scraped a 1-0 victory on Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

CHALLENGE REVIEW:

Lord Dilks became the first winner of the Challenge Trophy. His victory over Dame Yada in the Third Round concluded an impressive sequence of wins in which he avoided conceeding a single goal. His path to the final had seen him sweep past both Baron Von Hooton and Doc Shakib, chosing to play as Guile and T.Hawk respectively. Dame Yada won the Eternal Champions (Division Two) section of the competition after a tight 2-1 triumph against Captain Maltby.
