Lieutenant Gareth, having been reprieved from releagtion after the Sixteenth Tournament, dropped out of Division One, an inferior goal difference cost him his place in the top league. Lieutenant Gareth started the competition poorly, but was able to mount a brief comeback after beating Commander Graham on Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It was to no avail - Lieutenant Gareth will start in Division Two for the first time in four tournaments. Once again Lieutenant Gareth found himself in the Semi-Finals of the Knockout, however, he was beaten by Doc Shakib on Golden Axe 2, 6-0.
