Despite having never played in an International Mega Drive competition, Portugal are expected to perform well on the International Stage. With a wealth of talent available to them, they are expected to fight with Team Ireland for the title of Champions. Yet, the distance and expense required to reach the European Mega Drive Championship means that Portugal are unlikely to field their strongest team. This will offer solace to their opponents who might have feared being trampled underfoot by the Portugeuse. Domestic competitions have been occuring in the Iberian Pensiular since 2004. They are the most varied of all domestic competitions with six winners from seven tournaments.
