THE BRAZILIAN MEGA DRIVE CHAMPIONSHIP REVIEW

23rd September 2008

On 21st September 2008, Brazil became the third nation to join the International community of Mega Drive Championships. With Europe ready to brace itself for the European Mega Drive Championship on 26th October 2008, the addition of the Brazilian domestic is likely to fuel the fire of desire for a Mega Drive World Championship sometime in the future!

Inspired by the Do Além Tornaments, the Brazilian Mega Drive Championship was structured in a similar manner. The tournament was contested over nine rounds, with one game played per round and each member nominating one of the tournament games. Each round was generally played in a knockout format, except for Sonic 3 and Super Hang On, and the winner of each round was awarded three-points, second place scored two and the member in third received one-point. The winner was the player who earned the most points following the completion of the nine rounds.

Aldo became the winner of the Brazilian Mega Drive Championship and, although he didn't come first in as many games as second place Edward, it was his overall consistency that assured him of victory - scoring points in every game except Sonic 3. Both Aldo and Edward finished a long way ahead of third place, which was claimed by Bruno, who sneaked two-points in the final game, Arcade Classics (Ultrapong). Max finished one point behind while the rest failed to make any major impact upon the contest.
