The Tournament Knockout had been on hiatus since the Eleventh Mega Drive Championship. Back then the competition was an awkward event that became just too much hassle to continue with. It was re-introduced at the Fourteenth Tournament with Super Street Fighter 2 drawn as the final game. Mr Smith had overcome Doc Shakib and Dame Yada in order to take place in the final while Lieutenant Gareth had fought his way passed Baron Von Hooton and Captain Maltby. On paper this was an easy win for Mr Smith. The Tournament Knockout final was the last game of the Mega Drive Championship and with the other members crowding around to watch it became the first real specticle of any Mega Drive Championship. Lieutenant Gareth selected Vega while Mr Smith opted for Chun-Li. The first round lasted 42 seconds, Lieutenant Gareth started a rapid offensive against his more illustrious opponent and Mr Smith, finding himself backed into the corner for much of the match, was unable to contend with the relentless barrage of kicks. He lost the first round as Lieutenant Gareth leapt over a fireball and slid in from behind much to the delight of the crowd who smelt victory for the underdog. Mr Smith went more defensive in the second round; countering Lieutenant Gareth's failed attacks he defeated his dazed opponent 10 seconds quicker than Round 1 and with half his energy bar in tact. The stage was set for Round 3 and, with Mr Smith failing to counter as effectively as he did in the Second Round, he found himself on the back foot for the majority of the match. Ultimately though, Mr Smith found some form of effectiveness and although his final victory lacked flair he never-the-less found the final chink in Lieutenant Gareth's armour and won the Tournament Knockout for the first time in his history.
