At a time when the Mega Drive Championships was struggling to overcome predictability and tedium, Mr Smith and Lord Dilks's first encounter on the finest of all 16-bit fighters stands out like a rose in a garden of weeds. Mr Smith selected the swift Vega while Lord Dilks opted for the iron fist of M.Bison, both confess to these not being their best characters. Lord Dilks took the first round convincingly, hammering Mr Smith without much resistance. The second round saw Mr Smith come out on top in what was a much closer battle. The third round was a fantastic display in which the two rivals remained deadlocked in a dead heat all the way until the end. As the match reached its close both characters leapt into the air and both secured a kick. They fell back, the game slowed to indicate a KO, both health bars were on red and for a few fleeting seconds it seemed a double knockout had occurred. This was not the case. Vega somersaulted to land on his feet while M.Bison fell upon the floor. The game belonged to Mr Smith.
