Mr Smith and Lord Dilks had won all of the first six tournaments, however, the Seventh Megadrive Championship heralded a new era for the tournaments. The implimentation of a draw system no longer guarentteed the same predictable success that the earlier tournaments had bought. Now the four games used in each Championship would be selected from a pool of seven. NHLPA Hockey '93, Pete Sampras Tennis, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Virtua Racing were chosen. For the first time in the history of the Mega Drive Championships the race for the title was between three members; Doc Shakib, Lord Dilks and Mr Smith all contested the top spot. After game twenty the advantage swung towards Doc Shakib who beat Lord Dilks on Virtua Racing. Another Virtua Racing victory for Doc Shakib, against Baron Von Hooton, ended Lord Dilks's hopes of beign the Seventh Megadrive Champion. Meanwhile Mr Smith was accumulating points and after beating Doc Shakib on Pete Sampras Tennis, in the penultimate game, he pushed himself in second place and narrowed the gap between first and second to three points. The final game of the tournament was Lord Dilks versus Mr Smith on NHLPA Hockey '93.

The Seventh Championship was the first time NHLPA Hockey '93 had been used and because of this it was impossible to predict who was the best player. Lord Dilks had won one and lost one while Mr Smith had drawn both of his first two games. Both men needed to win the game for different reasons. A draw would help neither but with less than a minute left and the score at 2-2 it seemed like a draw would be the final result. With eight seconds remaining Lord Dilks sailed up the ice. There was a brief goalmouth scramble before the puck flew past the goalie and Lord Dilks took a 3-2 lead. With a few seconds left before full time there was little Mr Smith could do and the tie ended almost immedatley after the face off. Doc Shakib became the first tournament member other than Mr Smith and Lord Dilks to achieve the honour of Megadrive Champion. By scoring in the dying seconds, Lord Dilks secured himself runner-up spot and avoided a second third place finish in three tournaments. Mr Smith's third place finish was his lowest ever.
