The Fourth Mega Drive Championship was reaching its climax. Lord Dilks was top of the pile with just four games remaining. In second place lurked Mr Smith, five points behind but with six to play for. The fixtures favoured Mr Smith gaining six points from his last two games, so it was imperative Lord Dilks won one of his two remaining fixtures. With Lord Dilks and Mr Smith set to go head-to-head on Sonic 2 in the final game of the Championship, a game that guaranteed almost certain victory for Mr Smith, Lord Dilks needed to win his other fixture - an unenviable clash against Doc Shakib on Golden Axe 2.

Although Doc Shakib, Lord Dilks and Mr Smith were ranked as the best players on Golden Axe 2, no individual could be said to have the advantage over another. Lord Dilks' form on Golden Axe 2 during the Third Tournament had been poor, however, he had improved for the Fourth and had beaten Mr Smith, 1-0, earlier on in the competition. Head-to-head neither man could claim an advantage as both had won and lost once. This game was an unknown factor and it was upon this that everything depended. The game began. Doc Shakib and Lord Dilks circled each other, two warriors looking for the opportune moment to take advantage of the opponent’s weakness. The pressure was on the shoulders of the competitors and sweat adorned their faces as they continued their tentative dance. Gradually the bars of health fell away. Every other tournament before and after has paled compared to this epic. The pride, passion and pressure has never been produced by another game and for fifteen nail-biting minutes both men demonstrated their eager desire to claim the victory. Both were inseparable until the final blow and with that final swoop of the sword came an almighty cheer from the triumphant winner. Lord Dilks claimed the three-points, the title of Fourth Mega Drive Champion and the honour of saying he won this, the most sensational of all confrontations.
